Description: Come celebrate Major General Baron von Steuben’s birthday at the Bergen County Historical Society’s annual Oktoberfest, happening Saturday, September 26, 2026, 1-6 pm at Historic New Bridge Landing in River Edge, New Jersey.
Sip craft beers from local Bergen County breweries including Hackensack Brewery and Gearblock Brewery.
Families can enjoy cornhole and free pumpkin picking and decorating. Grab food from the on-site vendors, then snap a photo with the Baron himself.

This year we have Major General Baron von Steuben portrayed by Reenactor Ed Koenig. Chat with the Revolutionary War reenactors and share what military life was like back then.
Dance to the lively tunes of Particle Theory while exploring all three 18th century Jersey-Dutch sandstone houses & Westervelt-Thomas Barn, including the historic 1752 Zabriskie Steuben House, all open for tours thoughout the day. (The houses close 5-6 pm so volunteer staff can partake!)

Inside the Steuben House, check out new exhibits featuring Revolutionary War artifacts from the society’s collection. Featured is a collection-based exhibit on George Washington, What Did Washington Look Like? Also New to the collections: A 1778 powder horn, covered in scrimshaw.

Don’t miss the Westervelt-Thomas barn or the authentic Jersey-Dutch out kitchen, where interpreters will be making 18th century Gingerbread with a mold using Christopher Ludwick’s recipe. Well known for his gingerbread, Ludwick was appointed Baker General to the Continental Army, and was responsible for supplying the necessary bread to the soldiers during the Rev War.
And before you leave, stop by the gift shop for some treasures while enjoying hot cider, fresh donuts, and other fall treats available for purchase in the tavern.
